the princess and the frog

i've always been facinated by this picture of laudomia hercolani.

she was a princess (and an italian one at that),
a model a set designer
(the unsung hero, in my opinion, of the newly restored
film by luchino visconti il gattopardo).

according to a vogue article from 1964:
" a bemused admirer who insistently
referred to himself as 'a real toad in an imaginary garden,'
one day received a very large silver toad from
from the princess (via Bulgari)
accompanied by a line which said,
'perhaps you got the quotation wrong and
 it is an imaginary toad
in a
 real garden'.”

she's my kind of girl.
